There are claims about all sorts of vitamin supplements, including assistance in weight loss or weight control, relief from aches and pains, and even reduction of blood sugar for diabetics. However, if you don’t take the correct dosage, you're wasting your time and could even be overdosing to the point of intoxication.

Bee pollen is touted as a great source containing several important vitamin supplements, including B complex and vitamin D. However, the body can only process about 5% of the intake from this particular supplement, so in order to get the maximum benefit, you have to take enormous quantities.

As well, ginseng is great for your body and can make you feel quite healthy, but some of the herbal supplements that include ginseng must be monitored carefully and dosage instructions followed precisely, since some strains of the herb are toxic and deadly in large quantities.

When it comes to dietary supplements, many are advertised as weight loss supplements, promising to miraculously reduce your waistline in days. However, you need to read the fine print, and you also need to read the actual research on such items to see if there is any real evidence that these dietary supplements provide such results. In many cases, results are inconclusive at best.

For example, if you look at the claims related to bee pollen, you’ll find that it is said to assist in weight loss, which is great because there are proven results. However, if you read further, this is only effective in people who have a natural chemical imbalance that causes them to gain weight and have a problem reversing this trend, even on a controlled diet. There are no claims of appetite suppression or increase in metabolic rate, meaning it is not one of the typical weight loss supplements that will benefit the average overweight individual.

Some supplements simply are not backed by enough evidence and research to verify that they do what they are supposed to do. Let’s return to the claims of one of the most common herbal supplements, ginseng. Supposedly, the product is a natural stress reliever. However, what you will find is that this is simply based on its antioxidant and antigen properties rather than true clinical results.

It is important to research any of the nutritional supplements you plan to use to verify that they really do what the claims and advertisements state, but it is even more important to use them carefully and within recommended quantities for results you can trust.
