Body For Life Foods and Plans
The Body for Life permitted proteins lists offers 20 choices including chicken breast, lean ground beef, steaks, lobster, tuna, and many others that are sure to include your favorite meat choices. Vegetarians can choose from proteins such as tempeh, seitan, tofu, vegetable protein, soy foods and vegetable burgers.
Vegetable Choices
The 18 vegetables choices allow for a wide variety including broccoli, asparagus, carrots, green beans, peas, artichoke, and others. There are 13 permitted fats including avocado, sunflower seeds, cold water fish, natural peanut butter, low fat cheese, nuts, olives and olive oil are just a portion of the foods in this category. Five fats are listed as foods to strictly avoid; these are butter, fried foods, mayonnaise, sweets of any kind, and whole fat dairy products. Milk that is 1% or no fat is permitted although it doesn’t appear on any specific permitted foods list.
Carbohydrates are not excluded as they are important for maintaining energy levels. The type of carbs eaten are important though. The approved foods list in this category includes baked potato, squash, brown or wild rice, pasta, oatmeal, beans, barley, corn, strawberries, melon, apple, orange, and many others.
The portion guide helps a dieter determine a healthy serving size of the permitted foods. A serving the size of a deck of cards or the size of a closed fist is suggested as a guideline. Solid foods can be guided by the size of the palm of the hand. Liquids should be limited to one-cup servings.
To help dieters get off to the right start, the Body for Life website provides a menu for the first week of dieting on this program. In fact, the website provides a shopping list to make shopping for the new menu simple and easy. For example, one day of the menu plan looks like this:
Breakfast: One breakfast burrito, a glass of water, and coffee
Snack: Myoplex® nutrition bar and glass of water
Lunch: Turkey sandwich, one apple, and a glass of water
Snack: Myoplex® shake and a glass of water
Dinner: Grilled steak, one portion steamed mixed vegetables, one small sweet potato and a glass of water
Snack: Rice pudding and a glass of water
Clearly, the foods permitted make up a group of tasty meals that are filling and satisfying. The Myoplex supplements include nutrition bars, shakes, and other tasty foods to fill out the meal plan.
The Body for Life Diet requires exercise to burn away the calories consumed. The diet will prepare a person to follow and healthy pattern of diet and exercise for life to help ensure the pounds do not return.
