Cabbage Soup Diet
The Cabbage Soup Diet is a plan for quick weight loss. It is a diet plan that should be followed for seven days, after which the dieter must return to normal eating for at least two weeks. This diet is based on low-fat, high-fiber menu selections to can help a person lose pounds. It is only a kick-starter for a long-term moderate, healthy diet to maintain weight goals.

One of the obvious advantages of the diet is the rapid weight loss. It is the diet of choice for many who want to drop pounds before going on vacation, getting ready for a school reunion, preparing for a wedding, or just to drop weight to get back into favorite clothes for a night out.

Does the Cabbage Soup Diet really work?

You might have heard this diet referred to as “the Mayo Clinic Diet” or “Scared Heart Hospital Diet”. In reality, this weight loss plan has nothing to do with either of these health care institutions.

The concept behind the Cabbage Soup Diet is that a person attempting to lose weight can become easily discouraged when using a diet plan where only one pound of weight per week is lost. The diet, and the cabbage soup diet recipe associated with it, is designed to allow a person wishing to lose weight to have noticeable weight in the seven day period of the diet. This makes it much easier for the dieter to succeed using a moderate, traditional diet after using the Cabbage Soup Diet for seven days.

There are some important keys to success when embarking on a week of the diet plan. The plan must be followed exactly to ensure weight loss. The dieter must consume at least four glasses of water daily. It is also essential to use various spices to liven up the cabbage soup recipe, which is central to this diet and speeding up the metabolism. Take a top-quality multivitamin when dieting on this plan and eat plenty of cabbage soup to prevent hunger and slipping from the plan.

The Cabbage Soup Diet Recipe

Ingredients for the cabbage soup diet recipe are:
- 6 green onions
- 2 green peppers
- 1 or 2 cans of diced tomatoes
- 3 or 4 carrots
- 10 ounce can of mushrooms
- 1 entire bunch of celery, leaves included
- 1/2 head of cabbage
- 1 package of soup mix
- 1 or 2 cubes of beef, chicken, or vegetable bouillon
- 48 ounces V8 vegetable juice
- Seasonings to taste

Slice the green onions into a pot coated with cooking spray. Begin to sauté onions. Remove seeds and membrane from green peppers and chop into small pieces. Add to the pot of onions and continue sautéing. Chop cabbage into bite size pieces and add to pot after peppers are tender. Chop carrots into bite sized pieces and add to the soup pot. Add canned mushrooms, spices, bouillon, and spices to taste. Add V8 vegetable juice and 8 cups of water to the soup. Cover and cook over low heat for about two hours. Taste and re-season to taste.

Cabbage Soup Diet Plan

On Day One, and each of the seven days of the diet, as much soup as desired can be consumed.

On Day One, you can also eat as much fruit (except bananas) as you wish, as well a drink unsweetened teas, cranberry juice, and drink plenty of water.

Day Two allows all the fresh, raw, or cooked vegetables you desire. It is better to eat more leafy green vegetables and avoid dry beans, peas, or corn. Eat no fruit on Day Two but at dinner you can have a large baked potato with butter.

On Day Three, you can eat as much soup, fruit (except bananas) and vegetables you desire, but do not have a potato at dinner.

Day Four allows the addition of bananas and skim milk. Eat as many bananas as you want, as long as you do not eat more than eight. Drink as much skim milk as you want and, of course, continue to eat all the soup you want. This day is designed to reduce the craving for sweets.

Day Five permits the additional of beef or skinless chicken and tomatoes. You can have up to 20 ounces of lean beef and up to six fresh tomatoes. In order to cleanse your body of uric acid, drink at least eight glasses of water.

Day Six is a beef and vegetable day. You can have all the lean beef and vegetables you desire. You can substitute chicken for beef as long as there is no skin on the chicken. You can also substitute fish for the beef on only one of the beef/chicken days (Day Five or Six, but not both). Eat all the green leafy vegetables you want but do not eat any potatoes. Be sure to eat the cabbage soup at least once during this day.

Day Seven allows you to eat brown rice, vegetables, and unsweetened fruit juices. Eat cabbage soup at least one time and remember to eat all you want -- stuff yourself from the Cabbage Soup Diet food choices for the day.
