There is much debate about the types of foods that make you lose weight and which, therefore, are the most effective types of diets.
One of the most familiar types of diet plans that are the ones that count how many calories to lose weight you need to keep you intake restricted to each day. Low calorie intake is the basis for plenty of popular diet plans, including the Jenny Craig diet and Weight Watchers.
Certain diet programs involve eating prepackaged food that is formulated specifically to meet the plan's needs while others ask you to count "points" based on the type of food. |

Weight Loss & Diet Programs
Aside from low calorie diet plans offered by corporations, there are plenty of books and websites that offer tips, recipes, and even calorie calculators for dieters. Counting calories is more effective for those who don't mind keeping a close watch on what they eat, are willing to read package labels and measure servings, and who are committed to making a long term or even permanent lifestyle change. Recently, plans that require the dieter to avoid certain types of food have come into vogue. There has always been talk that cutting different types of food out of your diet could help you lose weight, but now such dieting plans are being "branded." For example, South Beach diet plans are primarily focused on avoiding certain types of carbohydrates. The "low carb craze" was heavily influenced by Atkins meal plans, and grocery stores today offer products that are specifically labeled as low carb, Atkins, or South Beach diet foods. In contrast, the Sonoma diet is built around ten specific "power foods" that are considered to be an integral part of your diet. Still other plans, such as the Zone diet food guidelines, are designed simply to encourage healthy eating but can also assist with weight loss when used correctly.
Aside from finding a plan that meets your lifestyle, it is important to make sure that any diet you choose meets any special health needs you may have. For example, diet plans for teens must take into account the continuing developmental process while diabetic diet plans must keep restricted food in mind. If the type of dieting that you are looking into does not offer a specialized plan that meets your needs, you will need to look for another way to lose weight.
